Silver Star Adaptive Snow Sports (SSASS) teaches and assists people with disabilities to ski and snowboard at Silver Star Mountain Resort, Vernon, British Columbia. Our volunteer instructors provide ski and snowboard lessons for disabled students of all ages with a variety of disabilities including Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, brain and/or spinal cord injured, cognitively challenged, and the visually impaired. The volunteer instructors work with the student’s ability, allowing the student to ski or snowboard to the best of their ability in a safe and fun environment.
Students range from complete novices to advanced skiers/snowboarders and include residents from the Thompson-Okanagan area, students from local schools, and Silver Star Mountain Resort Guests who come from all over the world. Outdoor recreation is safe, fun, and healthy for everyone. For people with disabilities, skiing and snowboarding means increased adventure, exercise, self-respect, and independence.
SSASS is a non profit organization and registered charity, and a
member of the Canadian
Association of Disabled Skiers. We rely upon the generosity of our
many sponsors and volunteers to help run the
programs.
