SSASS Race Team

picture racing

The racing program is designed to introduce skiers and boarders to the fun and exhilaration of racing, as well as providing a training ground for potential candidates for the BC Provincial, National Disabled Ski and Snowboard Teams and Special Olympic Athletes. The coaching emphasis is on enhancing skiing/snowboarding technique, gate training and race strategy from intermediate to advanced levels.

Special Olympics Alpine Ski Team

Last season SSASS added Special Olympics BC athletes from Vernon into the SSASS Race team with outstanding success. SOBC provide high-quality sports programs and competitions to meet the needs and interests of individuals with intellectual disabilities and strives to enrich lives, and celebrates personal achievement through positive sport experiences. SO coaches are specially trained and with a low student-coach ratio this group is a great foundation for success.

Novice Athletes are included in the regular SSASS student program on Saturdays, starting in early January, where the focus is to improve their basic skiing skills.

SSASS Race Team training is every Sunday through the season, and other days as arranged with coaching staff. Skiers who demonstrate good skiing skills and commitment can join this group from the regular Saturday student or local school program at any time. Participants of both groups will have opportunities to travel to competitions and to participate in fundraising and social events.
