SSASS is a volunteer run organization. Most of our volunteers are instructors, but we welcome volunteers willing to help with administration, fundraising, equipment maintenance, special events and other tasks.
Interested in volunteering but not becoming an instructor? The best place to start is to email the association president and set up a time to talk about the program.
Other Volunteering Opportunities
We are currently seeking to fill the following:
Volunteering as an instructor
To be a SSASS instructor you need to be a competent alpine skier or snowboarder. No prior ski or snowboard teaching experience is required. Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance (CSIA) or Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI) certifications are welcome but not mandatory.
You must have a desire to help those who would otherwise not have the opportunity to partake in the sport. This needs patience plus creative problem solving to adapt traditional ski techniques to the unique needs of your student.
We provide training and help you obtain your CADS certifications. SSASS does not charge for initial and ongoing training, or CADS certifications. As an instructor you will have the opportunity to work with more experienced instructors and help is always available.
If you need more information please email the association president and set up a time to talk about the program. You can also drop by the SSASS room during the ski season and speak to any of the instructors. If it looks like a good fit go to Becoming an Instructor.
