New to SSASS
SSASS is a volunteer run organization. Most of our volunteers are instructors, but we welcome volunteers willing to help with administration, fundraising, equipment maintenance, special events and other tasks.

Off-Snow and Non-Instructional Volunteering Opportunities
SSAS welcomes volunteers who might want to help out in some capacity off the snow or non-instructional. For example, volunteering at the Sovereign Lake to Silver Star Ski Marathon or coordinating special events; we are currently seeking to fill the following:
- Fundraising Coordinator
- Social Coordinator
- Media Coordinator.
Volunteering as an Instructor
To become a SSASS instructor, you need to be a strong intermediate alpine skier or snowboarder able to handle blue runs. No prior ski or snowboard teaching experience is required. Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance (CSIA) or Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI) certifications are welcome but not mandatory.
You must have a desire to help those who would otherwise not have the opportunity to partake in the sport. This needs patience plus creative problem solving to adapt traditional ski techniques to the unique needs of your student. At SSASS, we practice the Safe, Fun, Learn model; and when in doubt, return to the first two.
We provide training and help you obtain your CADS certifications. SSASS does not charge for initial and ongoing training, or CADS certifications. As an instructor you will have the opportunity to work with more experienced instructors and help is always available.
